Boom: “The fast succession of climbs makes Gold Race tough”

Liv Racing opens the Ardennes week with the Amstel Gold Race this Sunday. Sports director Lars Boom starts with Alison Jackson, Jeanne Korevaar, Pauliena Rooijakkers, Sabrina Stultiens, Soraya Paladin and Valerie Demey.

Due to the corona virus, the Amstel Gold Race is held on a modified course. The race takes place on a local lap of 17 kilometres around Valkenburg, including the Geulhemmerberg, Bemelerberg and Cauberg. “Such a local lap reminds me of a World Cup”, says sports director Lars Boom.

Several Liv Racing riders already did an individual recon of the Gold Race course last week, with another one by the team on Saturday; the lap will be free from spectators.

“We do the lap seven times which will starting to weigh towards the final, especially because the climbs follow in fast succession. As soon as the race is on, we will have to go along. Soraya Paladin, among others, is in good shape, which was noticeable in the Trofeo Binda and Gent-Wevelgem. In addition, Alison Jackson and Pauliena Rooijakkers are also doing great.”
