Double top 10 finish in Lotto Belgium Tour prologue

The Lotto Belgium Tour got underway this afternoon with a fast four and a half kilometre long prologue around the outskirts of Chimay. The all-out effort against the clock was made even more difficult as testing weather conditions and strong rain fell on the peloton throughout the afternoon.

Pfeiffer Georgi was the team’s second rider down the ramp and she flew around the course, lighting up the timing sheets to cross the line with a time of five minutes a 41 seconds; an effort that saw her move into a provisional third place. Lorena Wiebes and Franziska Koch would stop the clock with strong finish times too: five minutes 42 seconds and five minutes 47 seconds respectively.

Once the proverbial dust, but mostly rain, settled, it saw the Georgi end the day in an excellent sixth place, with Wiebes in eighth and the rest of the team not too far behind. Tomorrow sees the bunch take on a predominantly flat stage with a fast finish expected in Bruge.

“I felt good out there today and managed to get everything out of myself so I can be happy with my performance,” explained Georgi at the finish. “Hopefully I can bring this good feeling into the next three days with the team and we can get some nice results together.”

Team DSM coach Huub Duijn added: “All the team went full gas out there today. A time trial is an honest race and it was made more tricky with the weather conditions. To get three riders all around the top ten on the stage, I’d say it’s a good first day for us. We’ve got plenty of cards to play with now in the next days, and we’re all looking forward to the coming stages.”
