Evy Kuijpers will miss the 2025 spring classics after being struck by a driver during a training ride, suffering a broken collarbone. The Fenix-Deceuninck rider confirmed the crash and subsequent surgery in a hospital bed photo shared on her Instagram story, saying:
“Sadly no classics after being hit by a car during training. Luckily only a broken collarbone. Surgery done already.”
The 30-year-old has long been a reliable and experienced part of the classics block for her team. She was 15th at Paris-Roubaix in 2024 and scored a solo win at the GP Lucien Van Impe later in the season. Her absence is a blow to Fenix-Deceuninck, particularly for teammate Puck Pieterse, who will be targeting the cobbled races herself this spring and now lacks Kuijpers’ road captain role in key moments.
Kuijpers’ crash adds to an alarming number of incidents involving riders and drivers already in 2025. Earlier in the year, Italian rider Sara Piffer of Team Mendelspeck tragically lost her life after being hit head-on by a car driving on the wrong side of the road. Canadian rider Sarah Van Dam suffered a broken collarbone after a van’s wing mirror clipped her during training. French rider Célia Le Mouel was also injured in the off-season when a driver turned sharply across her path—just a handful of recent examples highlighting the persistent dangers riders face on the roads.
Kuijpers remains positive despite the setback, ending her message with: “All the best to my teamies @fenixdeceuninck.”
