Canyon SRAM zondacrypto head into the 2025 Giro d’Italia Women with clear goals at both ends of the terrain spectrum – challenging for the general classification with Antonia Niedermaier and aiming to continue their annual streak of sprint success with Chiara Consonni. The team brings a seven-rider line-up blending youth and experience, with multiple riders identifying personal targets across the eight-day race from Bergamo to Imola.

Niedermaier, sixth overall in 2024, will lead the GC ambitions. The 22-year-old has pedigree in the Giro after her mountain stage win in 2023 and will aim to step up again, with support from the vastly experienced Amanda Spratt and Soraya Paladin. Both riders are expected to play key roles in supporting her in the mountains and making tactical calls on the road.

For Consonni, the 2025 edition starts on familiar territory – her hometown of Bergamo – although the opener is a time trial. She admitted the parcours offers fewer clear sprint opportunities, with only stage 5 classified as a flat stage. Nonetheless, she remains ready to contest bunch finishes and add to her Giro stage wins from 2022, 2023, and 2024.

“There aren’t many chances for sprinters, but I’ll try to take mine when they come,” she said. “It’s always special to race in Italy, and starting from Bergamo makes this edition even more emotional.”

Tiffany Cromwell, lining up for her 15th Giro, warned that unpredictability remains one of the race’s defining traits. “Nothing ever surprises me at the Giro,” she said. “You’ve got to expect the unexpected. A stage might look easy on paper, but you can get caught out by a surprise climb.”

Cromwell has returned from injury with a combination of gravel racing and altitude training and said she was looking forward to rejoining the road peloton with a refreshed mindset.

Justyna Czapla, Alice Towers, and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig round out the squad, each bringing distinct roles. Czapla, riding her second Grand Tour, spoke of learning from La Vuelta and focusing on recovery and teamwork. Towers, back after a crash last year, has prioritised heat acclimatisation. Uttrup Ludwig stated that her measure of success would be whether the team could give Niedermaier their full backing and race with unity and joy.

Paladin highlighted stage 4 to Pianezze, which passes her local training roads, as a personal target, while Cromwell pointed out stage 6 in San Marino as another to watch.
