Fleur Moors suffers broken wrist in 2025 Giro d’Italia Women crash

Fleur Moors has been forced to abandon the Giro d’Italia Women after crashing midway through stage 5 and sustaining a broken wrist. Lidl-Trek confirmed on Thursday evening that the 19-year-old Belgian will require surgery, bringing a premature and painful end to her first Grand Tour appearance.

Moors went down in a crash that occurred in the rear of the peloton with around 60km to go during the windswept stage from Mirano to Monselice. Although several riders were caught up in the fall – including Marianne Vos – most were able to continue. Moors, however, was unable to remount, and was taken for medical checks where the fracture was confirmed.

“She will undergo surgery to stabilise the break with a small plate,” Lidl-Trek announced. “For now, Fleur is in a cast and will fly back to Belgium, where the operation will take place. Get well soon, Fleur!”

It’s another stroke of bad luck in what has already been a disrupted season for Moors. After missing the entire spring campaign due to sinus surgery, she finally returned to racing in early July and hit the ground running. She finished sixth in her season debut at the Antwerp Port Epic and claimed her first professional win just a day later at Dwars Door de Westhoek.

The Giro d’Italia Women marked her first-ever stage race at this level, but her momentum has now been cut short again.

Lidl-Trek have not specified a timeline for her recovery, but the upcoming block of summer racing is now likely off the table. Moors had been gaining valuable experience supporting the team’s leaders and showing signs of her own potential in the early stages. The setback will be bitterly disappointing, especially after such a strong return to form in July.
