British Cycling has announced the appointment of Helen Scott as the new Men’s Sprint Podium Potential Coach for the Great Britain Cycling Team, succeeding Justin Grace in the position.

Scott has been a part of the GBCT coaching staff since May 2022, transitioning from her role as a para-tandem pilot after more than a decade in the programme. She herself was a member of the GBCT Podium Potential programme for two years before joining the Paralympic programme in 2010.

Initially earning coaching qualifications while still competing, Scott has played a key role in nurturing future Paralympic talents and guiding emerging stars like Archie Atkinson and Lizzi Jordan to their inaugural world titles.

Stephen Park CBE, Great Britain Cycling Team Performance Director, praised Scott’s contributions, highlighting her positive influence on athletes and her ability to foster a supportive and motivated environment conducive to exceptional performances.

Scott’s transition to the Podium Potential coach position reflects British Cycling’s commitment to facilitating the progression of riders into coaching roles and supporting the development of female coaches. She looks forward to leveraging her skills and experiences from coaching the Paralympic Foundation Squad in her new role.

Expressing her excitement about the new position, Scott emphasised the importance of this stage of the pathway and her commitment to providing a stimulating and progressive programme for her riders, both on and off the bike.

While she reflects on her tenure as Paralympic Foundation Coach with gratitude, Scott eagerly anticipates the next chapter of her coaching journey, embracing the opportunity to work with a new cohort of talented athletes.

Scott will join the sprint team in Hong Kong for the UCI Tissot Track Nations Cup before assuming her role as Men’s Sprint Podium Potential Coach full-time on 26th March.
