Kim Le Court claimed an outstanding victory at the 2025 Giro dell’Emilia Donne, powering clear on the final ascent to San Luca to take one of the most prestigious one-day wins of her career. The Mauritian rider proved the strongest from a select group of contenders on the steep Bologna climb, crossing the line ahead of Niamh Fisher-Black, with world champion Magdeleine Vallieres among those distanced in the closing metres.
Breakaways and early control
The 126-kilometre race began under overcast skies and cool autumn conditions, with several early breakaway attempts failing to gain more than a brief advantage. After the first hour of racing, the peloton remained compact, led primarily by the Italian squads intent on animating the day’s moves.
The first real separation came on the slopes of Monte Calvo, where Irene Cagnazzo of BePink-Imatra-Bongioanni attacked alongside Camilla Lazzari, Sara Luccon and Martina Testa. Their lead reached two minutes before being reeled in by a fast-moving bunch that included the major teams Lidl-Trek, Movistar, and UAE Team ADQ.
At the summit of Monte Calvo, Cagnazzo crested first, followed by Quinty Ton of Liv AlUla Jayco and Alena Amialiusik of UAE Team ADQ, but the advantage was short-lived as the main field closed in on the run toward Bologna.
Select group forms before San Luca
With 15 kilometres remaining, the race settled into a lead group of around 15 riders, featuring Vallieres, Le Court, Ashleigh Moolman, Fisher-Black and several climbers suited to the sharp gradients ahead. The tempo rose as the peloton fragmented behind, and a chasing group hovered around 20 seconds adrift but never rejoined.
Approaching the final ascent to San Luca, the decisive moment unfolded. Le Court, riding with composure, followed the initial acceleration from Fisher-Black before launching her own sustained effort in the final 300 metres. Her pace proved unmatchable, and she rode clear to win solo at the summit.
A career year for Le Court
The victory in Bologna crowns what has already been a breakthrough season for Le Court. Earlier in 2025, she won Liège-Bastogne-Liège, claimed stage victories at both the Tour de France Femmes and the Tour of Britain Women, and secured both the Mauritius national road race and time trial titles in June.
Her ability to combine explosive power with climbing strength has made her one of the defining riders of the season, capable of winning across terrains from the Ardennes to the toughest uphill finishes. The Giro dell’Emilia adds another major one-day triumph to a campaign that has firmly established her among the world’s elite.
