Kristen Faulkner suffers fractured knee in training crash with driver

In a crash on 27th May 2023 but only announced officially today, Kristen Faulkner suffered a fractured knee. The American was involved in a collision with a driver of a car in California. The ride was uploaded to Strava at the time, where it showed the bike speeds ending followed by a very quick ‘ride’ to the end of the activity recording. The activity eventually finished outside the Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, around 30km from where the riding finished.

It has taken until now for the team to confirm the accident and injury, with the Strava activity being either deleted or made private in the meantime.

Everything appears to be on the mend now though. Faulkner has fired up Zwift for the first time since January, riding long stints between 2-4 hours most days with lots of Z2 and the odd Z3 stretch as well. The signs are encouraging that we might see her back for the Tour de France Femmes.

“Unfortunately, Kristen is currently unable to race, not until her knee fracture has healed. Kristen’s health and wellbeing are now the priority. She will work closely with the medical staff during her recovery period. We wish her a speedy recovery.”

Team Jayco-AlUla comment on Faulkner’s injury

So far in 2023, Kristen Faulkner hasn’t scored a victory but she did a great ride to initially secure third place in Strade Bianche. Unfortunately, that was later taken from her due to the wearing of a Supersapiens glucose meter, prohibited by the rules even if the data isn’t used.
