AG Insurance-Soudal have announced the signing of Italian rider Letizia Borghesi, who joins the Belgian squad on a two-year deal running through to the end of 2027. The 26-year-old arrives after a career-best spring campaign with EF Education-Oatly, highlighted by second place at Paris-Roubaix Femmes and sixth at the Tour of Flanders.
Raised in Cles, in the Trentino region, Borghesi turned professional in 2016 with Servetto and has since raced for Bepink, Aromitalia, and most recently EF. She first made her mark with a stage win at the 2019 Giro d’Italia Women, attacking from the breakaway to secure what remains her only professional victory to date. Since then, she has steadily built a reputation as a determined and aggressive Classics rider, capable of turning long-range moves into major results.
“A really special step”
Borghesi was quick to underline her excitement about joining a Belgian team renowned for its focus on the spring Classics.
“I’m really looking forward to join the team. From the very first chat with Jolien and Jurgen, I had a really good feeling and I am ready to make this important step in my career. I love the Classics, so to be part of a Belgian team is something special. I’m sure AG Insurance-Soudal can give me the right potential to reach my full potential and together we’ll do our best to achieve something nice. It’s impressive how the team has grown in the last few years and I can’t wait to be part of it,” she said.
Her ambitions extend well beyond supporting roles. “My biggest goal for the future is to win a Monument and to be that kind of teammate that can make the difference. Learning Flemish would also be nice. How cool would it be to do a basic interview in this language next year during the Classics?”
Targeting the cobbles
Sports manager Jolien D’hoore explained why the team moved to secure Borghesi. “She will be a strong asset to our Classics squad, where we aim to build greater consistency in the one-day races and strengthen our position in the cobbled Classics. Together with Letizia, we will target good results in key races such as Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix, so we really look forward to welcome her into the team.”
CEO Jurgen Foré echoed that sentiment, stressing both her talent and motivation. “Letizia is someone who will strengthen our squad in the classic races and stage hunting in grand tours where she has shown herself many times. From the talks that we had, we discovered she’s very motivated to bring her contribution to the team and to further develop herself, and this makes us confident and excited for the next two seasons.”
Building momentum
Borghesi’s 2025 season has been her most consistent at the top level, confirming the promise she showed with earlier top-ten finishes at races such as Scheldeprijs, Brabantse Pijl and the Italian National Championships. With AG Insurance-Soudal, she steps into a squad that is investing heavily in one-day success, a natural environment for a rider whose greatest strengths lie in the cobbles and attritional terrain of northern Europe.
