Belgian cyclocross champion Marion Norbert Riberolle has been forced to withdraw from her next three races after being struck by a motorist during a training ride on Sunday. The incident left her with a deep wound to her upper left leg, closed with staples, and widespread pain serious enough to halt all racing plans for the coming week.
The 26-year-old shared the news herself, posting images of her injury and describing the crash as a frightening and unexpected interruption to her preparation.
“A ‘small’ unexpected fall, not on the training schedule this morning. I left the hospital this afternoon after being hit by a motorist for refusing priority, and unfortunately it hit hard,” she wrote.
“A few staples, a hurt back, pain everywhere and a bad morale. Luckily, the bike is doing better than me. Bit of a rest now, time to let it all sink in, and get back on the bike and racing soon, I hope. Most of all, be careful of us on the road: we cyclists don’t have much to protect us.”

Three major races off the table
Her team, Crelan-Corendon, confirmed on Monday that she will miss Superprestige Niel, as well as Merksplas and Hamme, both of which take place over the coming weekend.
The team reported that recovery is progressing but that rest is essential. A full re-evaluation is expected next Monday to determine when she can return to competition.
“She suffered a deep cut wound, which was closed with staples. Recovery is going well, but she’s getting some much-needed rest,” the team stated.
It is a significant blow to Norbert Riberolle’s Superprestige campaign. Sitting third overall, just four points behind lead rider Sara Casasola, missing two rounds will almost certainly see her fall sharply down the standings.
Strong season interrupted
The crash comes at a frustrating moment for Norbert Riberolle, who has been in impressive form throughout the early cyclocross season. She took a commanding victory at Superprestige Ruddervoorde, and has been a consistent podium presence at Rapencross, Exact Cross Essen and Kermiscross Ardooie.
For now, the focus shifts to healing, reassessment and ensuring her body is ready before returning to the demanding rhythm of winter racing. Given her form, determination and the severity of Sunday’s impact, taking the necessary time to recover fully may prove crucial for the remainder of her season.
