The Spanish Continental team Massi Tactic has confirmed today that its main sports director Manel Gonzalo has left the team with immediate effect. The team is looking to improve its results after the month of Spanish racing in May. Gonzalo joined the team in mid-2019 and his term with the riders in yellow has come to an end after 4 years. After the Vuelta Andalucia, which ended just shy of 2 weeks ago, the team said how the racing hadn’t gone as expected or planned, which now feels related to this change in staff. The team’s best finisher was Petra Zsanko in 47th place on GC.
A replacement isn’t ready to step in immediately however the team has advised that it will announce a replacement in due course.
“We are very grateful for the work he has done all this time but we understand that his cycle here is over. It’s time to set new goals and other motivations to move towards the better. We think that changing an important figure like that of the sports director is a new step forward to demonstrate this ambition and thus look at the immediate future with more optimism.”Sergi Güell, president of the Baix Ter Cyclist Club and CEO of Massi-Tactic
