The new Swiss Women’s Continental team NEXETIS has confirmed that it will open its inaugural 2025 season at the Umag Trophy in Croatia at the start of March. The team was announced by Swiss Cycling back in November 2024 and has a host of Swiss riders looking to develop their careers to the next level.
On March 5th 2025, the team will get underway after building up with a training camp in Tuscany. The Umag Trophy often comes down to a smallish group sprint and will a test of those on the team with fast legs. A lower-end 1.2 level race, it’s very much a chance for riders at the smaller end of the Continental setup to impress and get bigger names to take notice with a victory on their palmares.
The team will then move to the Trofeo Ponente in Rosa, a short stage race in Liguria, Italy. It’s had some organisational troubles in the past but is a good test for some GC hopefuls, EF Education famously dominated the race in 2024.
Team manager Anna Wiese said: “In this first season, we will mainly take part in races where our young athletes have the opportunity to get to know professional road cycling and to develop at the same time.” The team also has the benefit of entry to Women’s WorldTour races Tour de Suisse Women and the Tour de Romandie Feminin.
Zurich native Annika Liehner was signed by NEXETIS last month in actuality and will be travelling to take part in the European Track Championships this month. She previously was part of the Junior Mixed Relay team that won silver in the 2022 European Championships in Anadia.
