The promising update comes for Shirin van Anrooij, the Lidl-Trek rider, who shared on Instagram that she has entered a new rehabilitation phase. The Dutch cyclist underwent surgery in the autumn of 2024 for a narrowed pelvic artery, a condition common among cyclists that restricts blood flow to one or both legs.
After-surgery, van Anrooij indicated that her return to racing could take about six months. However, signs of progress were evident by early December when she could ride outdoors on a mountain bike. As the new year has commenced, van Anrooij is now back on her road bike and has been given the green light to increase her training load.
“It is finally January, which means the operation was two months ago and I can increase my hours on the bike,” the 22-year-old enthusiastically shared on Instagram. This advancement in her recovery journey marks an important step towards her goal of returning to competitive cycling.
