Simon Carr has signed a three-year contract with Cofidis, starting from 2025. The 25-year-old British rider joins after four seasons with EF Education-EasyPost. Born in Hereford but raised near Carcassonne, Carr came through the French amateur ranks, racing for AVC Aix-en-Provence before turning professional with Nippo-Delko.

A talented climber, Carr showed his abilities by finishing third in last season’s Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge and winning a stage of the Route d’Occitanie. He also claimed the overall victory at the Tour de Langkawi and started 2024 with a win at the Trofeo Calvià. Carr continued his success by winning a stage of the Tour of the Alps for the second consecutive year.

Joining Cofidis

Carr is one of five new signings for Cofidis for 2025, alongside Dylan Teuns, Damien Touzé, Sylvain Moniquet, and Valentin Ferron. Manager Cedric Vasseur expressed his enthusiasm for Carr’s arrival, stating, “Simon is joining a 2025 team with a new look and a new way of racing. He will be able to fully express his talent, his audacity, and his aggressive way of approaching each race to make the Cofidis colours shine.”

Cofidis’ team will see major changes as Guillaume Martin moves to Groupama-FDJ and Alex Zingle joins Visma-Lease a Bike next season. Vasseur praised Carr as “another great recruit for the Cofidis team,” recognising the Briton’s development under Jean-Michel Bourgoin at AVC Aix-en-Provence. “He has already shown great promise and we want to support him in his dream of shining on the roads of the Tour de France,” Vasseur added.

Ambitions for the Tour de France

Despite having started the Giro d’Italia three times and lining up at the Vuelta a España, Carr has yet to debut in the Tour de France. “Having grown up near Carcassonne, I obviously dream of taking part in the Tour de France and aiming for a stage win – that would be the ultimate goal,” Carr said. “I feel comfortable in mountain races and in breakaways. I also like time trials, which could enable me to finish well in the overall rankings.”

Carr’s move to Cofidis aligns with his personal ambitions and the team’s objectives. “The project that Cofidis presented to me really appealed to me,” Carr explained. “I feel that the team’s mentality, with its constant desire to perform, is very similar to my own, and my objectives were in line with those of the team.”
