Smurfit Westrock Cycling Team have added significant depth to their 2026 roster with the signing of Kirstie van Haaften, who arrives from Cofidis Women’s Team. The 25-year-old Dutch rider brings a broad skill set shaped by years in the pro ranks, a background on the track, and a career defined by toughness, intelligence and a willingness to race aggressively.

Team manager Rick Lister said he was delighted to secure her signature. “Kirstie is a fantastic addition to the team. She brings a wealth of WorldTour experience and a great attitude both on and off the bike. She’s shown real consistency and determination over the past few seasons, and I’m confident she’ll be a key part of our 2026 campaign.”

Van Haaften has built a reputation as one of the peloton’s most reliable engines, equally comfortable supporting leaders in the classics as she is seizing her own opportunities. She first emerged as a talent on the track, winning the under-23 scratch race at the European Championships in 2018, before making her way into the professional road scene. Her early years with Health Mate-Cyclelive, Ciclotel and Parkhotel Valkenburg prepared her for a move to Cofidis, where she continued to mature as a versatile all-rounder.

Her career has also showcased remarkable resilience. After undergoing brain surgery in June 2024, she returned to racing just four months later at Binche-Chimay-Binche, underlining both her determination and her physical robustness.

Across the past few seasons, she has collected a series of strong results, including podiums at the Baloise Ladies Tour and Grote Prijs Yvonne Reynders, top fives at Leiedal Koerse and the Grand Prix de Wallonie, and consistent performances in demanding Belgian one-day races. Her earlier career highlights include top tens at EPZ Omloop van Borsele and Dwars door de Westhoek, as well as a mountain classification jersey at the Holland Ladies Tour.

Van Haaften now steps into her next chapter with Smurfit Westrock, a team she believes will provide the environment and support needed to deliver both personal progress and collective success. With her blend of power, race awareness and proven adaptability, she is set to play a pivotal role in the squad’s 2026 ambitions.
