After months of speculation, Soudal Quick-Step have officially confirmed that Remco Evenepoel will leave the team at the end of the 2025 season. He is expected to join Red BullโBoraโHansgrohe but that confirmation isn’t official yet. Though his current contract was due to run until the end of 2026, the Belgian star and his representatives informed team management that he would not enter negotiations on an extension, prompting an early release agreement.
The announcement brings to an end one of the most high-profile transfer sagas in recent years, with Evenepoel long linked to a move to the Red Bull-backed German outfit.
โRepresentatives of Remco informed the teamโs management that he did not wish to discuss an extension of his current agreement,โ the team statement read. โAfter taking some time to consult with our sponsors and partners, the teamโs ownership and management have decided that it is in best interest of everyone to agree that Remco can move at the end of the current 2025 season.โ
The decision marks a major shift for Soudal Quick-Step, who have built much of their recent strategy around the former world champion and Grand Tour winner. Evenepoel has been part of the Wolfpack since turning professional in 2019, achieving major wins at LiรจgeโBastogneโLiรจge, the Vuelta a Espaรฑa, and a world time trial title. His departure will leave a sizeable gap in the teamโs GC ambitions going forward.
While the statement did not include quotes from Evenepoel himself, the tone remained measured and forward-looking. โWhile we regret Remcoโs decision to leave, we will foster the memories that we have made and will continue to strive together to achieve some significant results for the rest of the season,โ it read.
The team also reiterated its long-standing identity and commitment to collective strength over individual stardom. โWe strongly believe in the team spirit that earned us the title of the Wolfpack and we will continue to strive to be a collective that is stronger than any one individual.โ
The move to Red BullโBoraโHansgrohe, once confirmed, will see Evenepoel take on a new role within an ambitious GC-focused structure that has already seen major investment in recent years. With both Primoลพ Rogliฤ and Jai Hindley currently part of the team, and talks of further reinforcements for 2026, the German squad appears poised to become one of the dominant forces in Grand Tour racing.
Evenepoelโs final races in Quick-Step colours are expected to include a tilt at the Vuelta a Espaรฑa later this month and a possible World Championships appearance.
