British Cycling has confirmed that stages three and four of the 2025 Lloyds Tour of Britain Men will take place across Milton Keynes, Central Bedfordshire and Warwickshire. The announcement follows the earlier confirmation that this year’s edition will begin with two stages in Suffolk.
Stage three will see the race return to the city of Milton Keynes for the first time since 2008, with the peloton setting off from Midsummer Boulevard on Thursday 4th September. The finish will take place on Woburn Street in Ampthill, marking the first time Central Bedfordshire has featured on the route of Britain’s biggest professional men’s cycle race.
The following day, Warwickshire will host stage four, starting in Atherstone and finishing with a gruelling summit finale at Burton Dassett Hills Country Park. The short but steep climb – 700 metres in length with an average gradient of nearly 9% – will be tackled three times in the closing kilometres, including a final ascent to the finish line. The race last visited this venue in 2019, when Mathieu van der Poel took victory in dramatic style.
Jonathan Day, managing director of British Cycling Events, welcomed the additions to this year’s route:
“It is great to be working with Milton Keynes City Council and Central Bedfordshire Council to bring the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men to their communities this September. Warwickshire has a long and proud history of hosting the Tour of Britain… especially with such a challenging finale at Burton Dassett Hills Country Park, that will draw spectators from right across the heart of England.”
The stage four route will take in all five of Warwickshire’s districts and boroughs: North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Rugby, Warwick, and Stratford-upon-Avon. It marks the third time the county has hosted a men’s stage of the race, and continues a strong local commitment to top-tier cycling, having also staged the Commonwealth Games road races in 2022.
Councillor Mick Legg, representing Milton Keynes City Council, described the return of the race as a celebration:
“Milton Keynes is truly a cycling city with more than 200 miles of redways, two national cycle routes and so many passionate cyclists. We’re excited to welcome the Lloyds Tour of Britain back to our city.”
Central Bedfordshire Council leader Cllr Adam Zerny added:
“Many of us remember the moment we were inspired to take up a sport, so perhaps amongst those who watch the athletes whizz past them in September will be a future cycling champion.”
The Tour will begin on Tuesday 2nd September with an opening stage from Woodbridge to Southwold in East Suffolk, followed by a second leg starting in Stowmarket. While reports suggest a Cardiff finale, details of the final two stages are still to be released.
With two new regions making their race debut and a return to a fan-favourite finish in Warwickshire, the 2025 edition of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men is already shaping up to be a dynamic showcase of British roads and racing.
