VolkerWessels Cycling Team has announced the signing of Sophie von Berswordt, who will join the Dutch squad from Team Visma | Lease a Bike on a two-year contract covering the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
The 22-year-old German has spent the past two years developing at WorldTour level and now makes the move to VolkerWessels with the aim of sharpening her strengths in the spring classics.
Von Berswordt on her move
“After my first two years in the pro peloton, I’m really looking forward to a new challenge at VolkerWessels Cycling Team,” von Berswordt said. “The harder classics suit me and bring me a lot of joy and satisfaction. I’m very happy with the trust the team is giving me to develop further in that area, and I’m convinced this is the right place for me to take the next step.”
VolkerWessels continues to build
General manager Marnix Drysdale underlined the team’s commitment to progression, noting their increasing presence in major races this season, including a strong Tour de France campaign.
“As a team we’ve worked hard over the last two years to build a foundation for the future,” Drysdale said. “This year we’ve been visible in multiple WorldTour races, but for various reasons we decided not to apply for a WorldTour licence yet. That doesn’t change our ambition – we’re still working towards building a WorldTour-worthy organisation and roster. It’s great to see that we can attract riders like Sophie, and we look forward to working with her.”
Von Berswordt’s signing adds further depth to VolkerWessels’ growing squad, which has set its sights firmly on becoming a consistent force in the toughest one-day races while laying the groundwork for an eventual WorldTour application.
