VolkerWessels strengthen 2026 roster with signing of Florien Bolks

The VolkerWessels women’s squad continue to build their roster for next season with the arrival of Florien Bolks from WV Schijndel. The 24-year-old, a former marathon speed skater, joins just a week after Vera Tieleman was announced as a new signing.

From skating to cycling success

Bolks has only been racing seriously for a short time but has quickly established herself as a talent to watch. Originally a marathon skater, she took up cycling as cross-training during the summer months, only to discover a passion for the sport. Within two years she was competing regularly and this season she caught the eye of VolkerWessels with a string of strong results.

Her breakthrough came with victory at the Ronde van Twente, while she also placed third at the Dutch National Championships for elite riders without contract and at the Zuiderzeeronde. Alongside those podiums, she showed consistency with top finishes such as third on stage 4 of Gracia Orlová and tenth at the Région Pays de la Loire Tour Féminin.

Bolks eager for new challenge

“I’m really looking forward to riding for VolkerWessels Cycling Team,” Bolks said in the team’s press release. “The positive conversations about personal development, team spirit and tactics gave me a strong feeling that I wanted to be part of this team. At VolkerWessels I’ll have the opportunity to grow and to learn from other riders, while contributing to the whole team. I’m very motivated to make the next years successful.”

Bolks recently completed her master’s degree in Interaction Technology last December, balancing her studies with the transition into elite cycling. With VolkerWessels she now has the platform to further her progression, aiming to combine her versatility and racing instincts into consistent performances at a higher level.
