Wevelgem will remain the finish town of Gent-Wevelgem until at least 2031 after the West Flemish municipality signed a six-year contract extension with organiser Flanders Classics. The long-standing partnership guarantees that both the men’s and women’s editions of the spring classic will continue to conclude in the town that has hosted the finale since the very first edition in 1934.
The renewal does come with a modest financial increase. The current annual fee of €300,000 will rise to €310,000 in 2026 and 2027, then €320,000 in 2028 and 2029, before reaching €330,000 for the 2030 and 2031 editions.
Gent-Wevelgem has carried the subtitle In Flanders Fields since 2014, linking the race to the region’s First World War history. That connection, and the iconic finish in Wevelgem, will remain untouched under the new deal.
While the finish is secured, uncertainty surrounds the start location in Ypres. The city council has previously indicated that the €150,000 fee is too steep and has tabled a counterproposal, leaving the start venue still under discussion.
