Australian rider Alex Manly is set to join AG Insurance-Soudal in 2025, marking a fresh start in her career after riding for Greenedge her entire professional journey. Manly, now 28, will ride under a two-year contract with the Belgian squad, targeting a strong spring season and the Tour de France Femmes.
Manly, reflecting on her time at Greenedge, shared her excitement for this new chapter. “Iโve only ever ridden for one team, Greenedge, where I have so many great memories. But now, Iโm ready for a new challenge and a new environment where I can grow,” she said. Her move to AG Insurance-Soudal is further supported by the presence of fellow Australian rider Sarah Gigante, making the transition smoother.
“Iโve been watching the team race over the years, and it was clear how well they work together. They might not always win, but they fight every time to be in the mix, and I admire that so much,” Manly explained, emphasising her admiration for the team’s collective spirit. She added, “That team spirit really appeals to me.”
Manly is a versatile rider with experience in multiple roles, and sheโs eager to bring her skills to AG Insurance-Soudal. “I see myself as a versatile rider, and I want to support the team in as many ways as possible. With my experience in different roles, I think I can bring value throughout the season. Personally, Iโd like to focus on a strong spring and aim for success in the Tour de France, especially in the stages,” she said.
Manly’s contract comes after a 2024 season where she didnโt secure a victory, but her ability to perform at the WorldTour level remains evident. Last year, she claimed stage wins at the Santos Tour Down Under and the 2022 Tour of Scandinavia, in addition to a strong third-place finish at De Brabantse Pijl in April, behind Elisa Longo Borghini and Demi Vollering.
Manly explained how joining AG Insurance-Soudal was a decision that came naturally after several discussions. “After my conversations with Jolien and hearing about the teamโs goals, I felt that their values really aligned with mine. Iโve been truly inspired by what the team has achieved in recent seasons, and I think Iโll fit in well here,” she revealed.
Manly, who got into cycling through a talent identification programme, is looking forward to learning from and working with her new teammates. “I donโt have many expectations for my growth within the team. Iโm coming in with an open mind, but I know Iโll grow as a rider by learning from and working with new people,” she said. She is keen to become someone her teammates can rely on both “on and off the bike.”
Manlyโs upcoming move to AG Insurance-Soudal represents a significant step in her career, and she remains focused on finishing the current season strong before fully diving into her new role. “Iโm still focused on finishing the current season, but soon Iโll start getting to know everyone at AG Insurance-Soudal. I think that process will come naturally,” she concluded.
