Amber Pate wins her first national championships at the Aussie criterium in Ballarat

Amber Pate Aussie National Criterium Championship 2023

After impressing during the 2022 season whilst racing for the well-known club team S-Bikes-Doltcini in Belgium, Amber Pate has taken her first national championship victory. It came in the criterium which opens the Australian national championships races this week. Her success in Europe last year secured her a move to Team Jayco-AlUla for 2023 and that faith has been instantly repaid.

The race saw 35 laps of a 1.1km course in Ballarat, the local area home to all of the national championships for a number of years. Amber Pate made one of the initial attacks of the race but at that point, it didn’t stick. The likes of Lucie Fityus of Cycling Development Foundation, Gina Ricardo of Team BridgeLane and Lauretta Hanson of Trek Segafredo were all visible at the front of the race.

As the race came to its final section, Pate attacked with Tilly Field of Roxsolt Liv SRAM and managed to hold off the chasing field. With her teammate’s win secured, Alex Manly timed her burst out of the back to finish 2nd, just ahead of Field. Roxsolt Liv SRAM’s recent acquisition, Chloe Hosking, finished 4th as she continues to try and impress to return to the WWT or European Continental level in 2023. Lucinda Stewart of ARA Skip Capital was 5th and claimed the U23 title as the first rider of that category to cross the finish line.

The Australian Women’s National Road Championship will take place on Sunday 8th January.
