Bauernfeind and Niedermaier extend contracts with Canyon SRAM

Antonia Niedermaier wins the opening stage of the Tour de l'Avenir

Canyon SRAM has announced that Ricarda Bauernfeind and Antonia Niedermaier will stay with the team through to the 2025 season. The two German riders, both rising stars, are eager to continue their development with the support of the team.

At 21, Antonia Niedermaier has already made her mark in pro cycling. She joined Canyon SRAM in 2023, after starting with their development squad in 2022. In just over two years, she has had some major results, including a win at the Tour de l’Ardรจche in 2022, a stage win at the 2023 Giro Donne, and top-six finishes at both the Giro and Tour de Suisse this year. Niedermaier shared her excitement about staying with the team, crediting their support for her growth as a rider.

โ€œAs a young female cyclist who recently started my professional career with the team, I am thrilled to have extended my contract for another year. The decision was motivated by the incredible support and encouragement I have received from my teammates and coaches,โ€ she said.

She also praised the teamโ€™s unity and smart racing approach, which convinced her to stay. โ€œOne of the highlights from the past season that reinforced my decision to stay with the team was the teamwork and the good results at the races. We really raced as a team, smart and efficient,โ€ Niedermaier explained.

Next year, she aims to focus on stage races and help the team achieve more success. โ€œNext year, I hope to improve my performance and have some nice results in the bigger stage races. I plan to contribute to the teamโ€™s success by being a reliable and dedicated team player,โ€ she added.

Bauernfeind eager for a comeback

Ricarda Bauernfeind is also staying with Canyon SRAM, despite a challenging 2024 season. The 24-year-old, who joined the team in 2022, had a strong first half of this year, including a stage win at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift and a ninth-place finish at the Ardennes Classic Liรจge-Bastogne-Liรจge. However, a knee injury in the second half of the season forced her out of several key races.

โ€œIn 2024, I had difficult months, and it was the worst time of my career so far,โ€ she said. โ€œBut this period showed me how much I love being on the road with the team and racing and how much I miss every person on the team.โ€

Now, Bauernfeind is focused on recovering fully and getting back to racing form in 2025. โ€œAfter such a long break without structured training and racing, I simply want to return to my previous form and race with my team again next year. I missed it so much and canโ€™t wait to fight for victories with my teammates,โ€ she added.

With both Niedermaier and Bauernfeind re-signing, Canyon SRAM is looking forward to a strong 2025 season. However, it is somewhat surprising that both riders have only extended for one year. Niedermaier, who won a stage of the Giro Donne, and Bauernfeind, who claimed a Tour de France Femmes stage, are key riders for the team. Meanwhile, their teammate Neve Bradbury is signed up until the end of 2027, raising questions about the length of these new deals.
