British talent Cat Ferguson will make her cyclocross season debut on 14th December at the X2O Trofee in Herentals, marking a new chapter for both the 18-year-old and her Movistar team as they step into the discipline for the first time. Ferguson expressed her excitement for the challenge and her team’s backing. “I feel very fortunate to have the support of Movistar Team for this cyclocross season,” she said. “The trust the team has in me and the backing they provide is evident in their willingness to try something new this winter and take on the muddy fields of Belgium. Being my first year in Elite/U23, I’m excited to start competing and learning as much as possible, with no pressure for results just yet. I can’t wait for my first race on December 14th in Herentals.”
The 18-year-old will compete in 14 events, including eight World Cups, before concluding her season at the World Championships in Liévin, France, on 2nd February. Her calendar includes high-profile stops such as Zonhoven, Gavere, and Benidorm, the latter being a home event for Movistar.
A proven talent in transition
Ferguson has already established herself as a versatile rider with an impressive palmarès. Last season, she narrowly missed out on the Junior World Championship title in Tábor, finishing second to Celia Gery. Her dominance in cyclocross was clear with two Junior World Cup victories and the British junior national title, won by nearly four minutes in Falkirk.
Before transitioning fully to the road in 2025, Ferguson aims to learn and compete at the Elite and U23 levels. Movistar’s move into cyclocross highlights their commitment to supporting emerging talent and exploring new cycling disciplines.
Ferguson joined Movistar as a stagiaire late in the 2024 road season, quickly securing victories at the AG Tour de la Semois and Binche Chimay Binche pour Dames. Her road success included a double triumph at the Junior World Championships in Zurich, where she won the time trial and road race.
With her cyclocross debut fast approaching, Ferguson looks to bring her versatility to the off-road circuit. Her schedule includes the Superprestige Diegem and British National Championships, making this winter an important phase for her development.
