Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, currently third in the Cyclocross World Cup standings, has chosen to skip the upcoming Gavere race on Boxing Day to manage her workload. The Fenix-Deceuninck rider recently delivered back-to-back victories in Zonhoven and Mol, but her absence from Gavere signals a measured approach as she eyes a critical stretch of racing in January.

The decision was confirmed by her team, who stated on Instagram: “She is skipping Gavere to avoid overload and stay fresh for the crucial month of January.”

Alvarado’s recent performances underline her strong form, despite battling illness during the World Cup event in Hulst. She bounced back to claim a commanding victory in Zonhoven and followed it up with another win in the Superprestige round at Mol just a day later. However, the prospect of securing a third win in five days will not materialise, as Gavere has been dropped from her schedule.

Alvarado’s next appearance is set for the Besançon World Cup this Sunday, followed by the Superprestige rounds in Diegem (30th December) and Gullegem (4th January). She will also contest the World Cup event in Dendermonde on 5th January. Despite this careful scheduling, her absence from Gavere is likely to see her fall further behind series leader Lucinda Brand, who currently holds a 36-point advantage in the standings.

This calculated approach reflects Alvarado’s ambition to remain competitive across multiple series, including her leadership position in the Superprestige classification. Gavere will now proceed without the former world champion, leaving fans looking ahead to her return to action in Besançon.
