For the 2024 season, the AG2R Citroën Team is undergoing significant changes, including a rebranding to Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale. The French WorldTeam will now ride on Van Rysel bikes, a brand under Decathlon, which will also supply helmets and glasses. The team’s jersey is set for a makeover too, transitioning from the current brown and white to a new white and blue design.
Six new riders are bolstering the team’s lineup. Notable signings include Victor Lafay, moving from Cofidis, and Sam Bennett, who makes the switch from Bora-Hansgrohe. Bruno Armirail, a strong time trialist from Groupama-FDJ, is another significant addition to the squad.
The Belgian contingent in the team is expanding with three new riders. Dries De Bondt, winner of a Giro d’Italia stage and former Alpecin-Deceuninck rider, joins alongside sprinter Gianluca Pollefliet from Lotto-Dstny U23 and Sander De Pestel from Team Flanders-Baloise, both making their WorldTour debut.
Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale confirmed these new signings at their team presentation in Lille. Lafay had previously announced his switch from Cofidis, but it was not officially confirmed until now. Bennett, following a challenging period at Bora-Hansgrohe, expressed excitement about his new environment, citing the team as a perfect fit to achieve top form. He has signed a contract with the team until the end of 2025.
Bennett, aged 33, discussed his decision to leave Bora-Hansgrohe and his anticipation for the upcoming seasons with Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale. The team, which had previously partnered with Decathlon in the early 2000s, boasts a 28-rider roster for 2024. This includes notable French reinforcements Victor Lafay and Bruno Armirail, and Irish sprinter Sam Bennett. The team’s 2024 lineup excludes Alex Baudin, who hasn’t raced since his positive tramadol test and remains under contract with the team.
