Elise Chabbey narrowly missed another podium for CANYON//SRAM Racing after finishing fourth in today’s Ladies Tour of Norway second day. After a challenging 145-kilometre stage, it came down to again a solo rider holding off a chasing peloton. Riejanne Markus (JVW) crossed the line with 20 metres to spare to win the stage in Mysen, Norway.
Elise was pleased with her effort to sprint to a fourth place after earlier trying a late attack on the finish circuit.
“We had many options today with either Alice in a bunch sprint or one of us to try on the final climb. During the stage Alice wasn’t feeling good so we had to change plans. Alexis (Ryan) paced into the final climb and then Mikayla (Harvey) took over. I tried an attack near the top but I wasn’t really confident it could split the group,” explained Elise.
“We thought we had the best chance in the sprint with Hannah (Barnes) but we couldn’t get together in the last few kilometres. I followed Mikayla’s wheel and then went on to Lucinda Brand’s (TFS). When it came to the sprint I just went as hard as I could and I was expecting others to come around me. Actually, I could pass Brand and was third in the bunch sprint.”
“After a hard stage it’s good to see I can still have some power in the end. I’m improving my skills and happy to be there for the team in this kind of hard finish. We had good positioning for the whole day and our communication was good which gives everyone a lot of confidence as the stage goes on. We missed the podium but we are motivated for another day tomorrow,” added Elise.
With the queen stage three tomorrow hosting an eleven-kilometre climb to a summit finish, the general classification is set to have a shake up. Currently, Elise is CANYON//SRAM Racing’s best placed rider in the overall, in ninth place and ten seconds behind leader Kirsten Faulkner (TIB).
