Franziska Brauße powered to victory in the 20km time trial at the Chrono Féminin de Gatineau, securing the fastest time of the day. The German rider from Ceratizit-WNT completed the two laps of the Gatineau course in 27 minutes and 23 seconds, beating Canada’s Nadia Gontova by just 4 seconds. Brauße’s teammate, Marta Jaskulska, rounded out the podium, finishing 30 seconds behind the winner.
The time trial marked the opening event of the weekend-long competition in Gatineau, Quebec, with Brauße storming the 20km route, featuring a short climb in the middle. Speaking after the race, Brauße expressed her satisfaction with her performance, saying, “It was a challenging course, but I’m really happy with how I paced it. It’s always great to see the hard work pay off.”
Canadian rider Nadia Gontova, representing DNA Pro Cycling, put in a strong performance to claim second place, finishing just shy of the top spot. Gontova was the top home rider in the race, and her time of 27:27 put her in a competitive position heading into the weekend’s other races. “It’s always nice to race on home soil,” Gontova said. “I’m pleased with the result, but of course, I always want to do better. We’ll see what the road race brings tomorrow.” Gontova impressed recently at the Tour de l’Ardeche, finishing 8th in GC over in France.
Marta Jaskulska, also from Ceratizit-WNT, took third, 30 seconds back from Brauße. The Polish rider performed consistently throughout the course and managed to secure a podium spot in what was a tough field of competitors. Letizia Paternoster, riding for Liv Racing TeqFind, narrowly missed out on a podium finish, coming in fourth with a time of 28:04, just 41 seconds off the winning time.
The result helps earn Ceratizit-WNT a solid tranche of nearly 200 points in their ongoing battle to ensure they remain in the Women’s WorldTour at the end of next season.
