Pfeiffer Georgi was involved in a late crash on stage 5 of the Tour de France Femmes. The crash occurred in the final ten kilometres of the race at the exit of a roundabout, affecting several riders, including Demi Vollering, who lost the race lead after the incident. The crash resulted in injuries for many, with some riders nursing their injuries to the finish line.
The British Champion, Pfeiffer Georgi, and EF-Oatly-Cannondale rider Magdeleine Vallieres were taken to the hospital for further checks. Vallieres sustained a concussion. As of the latest update, Georgi was still undergoing medical examinations.
“After her crash today at [the Tour de France Femmes, Pfeiffer Georgi] is doing well given the gravity of her fall,” the dsm-firmenich PostNL team shared on social media. “She has sustained multiple injuries but at this stage, they don’t look too serious. However, she is still undergoing further checks in hospital, so we will provide a further and full update after they are concluded tomorrow. Thinking of you, Pfeiffer, and sending you healing power.”
Georgi had been in strong form for her third Tour de France Femmes. She had finished fifth in the Olympic Games road race and enjoyed a successful season leading up to the Tour. Her results included second place overall at the Baloise Ladies Tour in July, a National Championships road race win in June, and third at Paris-Roubaix Femmes in April.
The stage was from Bastogne to Amnรฉville and had presented a potential opportunity for the 23-year-old before the crash ended her participation in the race. This makes Georgi the first dsm-firmenich PostNL rider to withdraw. Juliette Labous, the team leader, is currently fifth overall.
