Gent-Wevelgem: wind, crashes and valuable lessons

Julia, Catalina, Amelia, Emily, Mylène and Charlotte lined up for Gent-Wevelgem In Flanders Fields,  a race in the WorldTour category with the best riders in the world at the start line. Marianne Vos won the race after a race with many echelons and all-around hard racing.

Catalina finished in 51st place:

It was an honour to race Gent-Wevelgem! I didn’t know much of the history until before the race, so that made it more special.
It was also brutal! All day anticipating corners, thinking of the wind, eating and drinking and massive efforts up the climbs.
I learned a lot in this race and I did have fun! Super keen for the next one.

Amelia Sharpe raced her first WorldTour race in Flanders Fields. She came in 76th, in the same group as Catalina at 4 minutes from the winner.

Today was pun!! It was pretty hectic from the start because of the crosswinds. A really hard race, I got caught behind a crash which left me chasing with 30km but I made it back to the second group and am really happy to have finished. Hoping Julia is okay after her crash.

Mylène and Emily finished in 104th and 105th pkace, almost 12 minutes down on the winner.  Julia crashed hard and was brought to hospital. Luckily there weren’t any fractures.

“I crashed in the last part of Gent-Wevelgem today. It’s sad to end a fun race because of a crash but I’m fine. Only a bit bruised, but fine”
