The GP Beerens, a Belgian women’s race which had grown into a respected UCI 1.1 event over the past three seasons, has been permanently cancelled. Organisers, De Ster van Aartselaar, announced the news on Facebook “with a heavy heart,” citing ongoing financial pressures due to a lack of sponsorship and the personal health concerns of their chairman.
Originally scheduled for 7th September 2025, GP Beerens had become a reliable fixture within the Lotto Cycling Cup, a popular Belgian series of one-day races. After an initial start as a UCI 1.2-level event in 2021 – following a cancellation of its first planned edition in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic – it quickly developed into a solid 1.1 race from 2022 onwards.
Last year’s edition in 2024 was won by Sofie van Rooijen of VolkerWessels, who defeated Anna van Wersch and Victoire Berteau. Other notable past winners include Chiara Consonni (2023), Majo van’t Geloof (2022), and Thalita de Jong (2021).
The organisers extended heartfelt thanks to riders, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters, acknowledging their contributions in establishing GP Beerens as more than merely a cycling race, describing their event as a true “celebration of cycling.”
Reflecting positively, the organisation concluded: “We are proud of what we’ve achieved together. The memories and sporting achievements we’ve shared will be cherished forever.”
