Great Ragusa at the Italian Championship

On home roads Katia ended the 2020 season with a wonderful second place behind Longo Borghini

The road race Italian Championship put an end to this very difficult 2020 season and the very last race gave a great joy to the Astana Women’s Team: in the little town of Breganze, where the race was held, Katia Ragusa managed to get a beautiful podium finish. The route was a circuit with the climb of Salcedo to be tackled five times for a total of 118 very demanding kilometers: on the fourth lap the decisive breakaway was formed with Ragusa, Cavalli and Longo Borghini, with the latter that then went all alone over the last ascent of Salcedo and took off towards victory. Caught between two teammates, for Katia Ragusa there was little to do, but the 23-year-old from Schio was still very good in the final kilometers to hold on and grab the second position.

For Katia Ragusa today was a very special race because it came at the end of the first season in the Astana Women’s Team jersey during which she made significant improvements, but also because it took place on her home roads which she rides almost every day in training and with lot of fans cheering for her: «I knew that Elisa had something more, but I’m really happy with the result. It was an amazing day, racing on home roads with all those people gives you an incredible boost». Great emotions then enhanced by an excellent result that is added to the best of the season together with the Giro Rosa where she was fifteenth in the GC and fourth in the last stage, or the eighth places at the Brabantse Pijl and the Tour Down Under.
