Hannah Barnes was our best-placed rider in a wet and wild Gent Wevelgem. A change to the parcours, with a new order of climbs created a small group after the second ascent of the Kemmelbergy climb. A small group of ten riders contested the sprint finish, with Jolien dโHoore (DLT) winning.
โWe raced well, and Hannah was well-positioned into the early climbs and also the gravel plugstreet sections. Itโs just unfortunate she couldnโt make that front group the second time over the Kemmelberg,โ said Tiffany.
โThen it was Alena and I chasing to try to bring the group back. From 40 seconds we got within about 6 seconds I think it was, but unfortunately not enough to give Hannah the chance to sprint.โ
Hannah said, โJust one mistake and that cost the chance to go for a result. Itโs disappointing because for the rest of the race I was positioned well and part of all the important moves. Thatโs how it went.โ
The team will now prepare for the highlight of the classics, Ronde van Vlaanderen on Sunday 17 October.
