Joris Nieuwenhuis extends tenure with Baloise Trek Lions: “I’m in the right place here”

Joris Nieuwenhuis has affirmed his commitment to Baloise Trek Lions, having agreed to a contract extension with the cyclocross team led by manager Sven Nys until December 2025. Nieuwenhuis, at 27 years of age, expressed a sense of belonging at the outfit, declaring it the ‘right place’ for him.

The Dutch rider, who formerly juggled road cycling with cyclocross at Team Sunweb and Team DSM, has decided to forgo road racing and refocus solely on cyclocross with Baloise Trek Lions since the end of 2022. Nieuwenhuis conveyed his delight in extending his tenure with the team for another two years, citing the supportive environment and the right people surrounding him as pivotal factors in his decision.

A Renewed Focus on Cyclocross

Nieuwenhuis discussed his initial realisation upon joining the team that he had found the environment he had been seeking. Fueled by motivation and surrounded by a supportive team, he is eager to continue improving as a cyclocross rider in the years ahead. While Nieuwenhuis encountered a challenging start to the cyclocross season, his performance improved significantly during the muddy Superprestige Niel event. There, he contended for the victory alongside Eli Iserbyt, ultimately securing second place after a spirited effort.
