Kelly Murphy

Kelly Murphy is an Irish cyclist who has competed successfully on both the road and track. A specialist time-trialist and pursuit rider, she represented Ireland at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as part of the country’s first Olympic women’s team pursuit squad. Murphy stepped away from the international track programme after Paris but has continued to race selectively on the road, adding another Irish national time-trial title in 2025.

Career overview

Murphy took up cycling seriously in her mid-20s after completing a PhD in brain imaging and cognitive neuroscience. She rapidly developed into Ireland’s leading female time-trialist, winning four national titles before Paris 2024 and recording a top-10 finish at the 2019 European Championships. On the track, Murphy became central to Ireland’s team pursuit programme and won Nations Cup gold in both the team and individual pursuit in 2021. She helped Ireland qualify a women’s team pursuit squad for the Olympic Games for the first time, finishing ninth in Paris in 2024.
