Lucinda Brand suffers hand fracture, out of European Championships

Lucinda Brand UCI Cyclocross World Cup Winner 2021-2022

Lucinda Brand suffered a break to the metacarpal of her right hand after a crash in the recon for the Tabor World Cup round. On the course doing training before the official recon slot, Brand crashed and suffered the injury that will see her miss some races. The metacarpal is an awkward bone to break, not a big bone, it affects being able to grip the bars and everything that goes with that.

The European Championship is due to take place in Namur on 5th November and it seems likely that Brand will miss the race.

“There are some challenging weeks ahead, I will have surgery on Monday and after that I will work hard to get back into competition as soon as warranted. A comeback for the European Championship seems impossible, but we’ll see how it goes.”

Lucinda Brand is eager to get back on the bike soon. Yesterday, the European cyclo-cross champion broke her metacarpal bone in a crash during training, which means she has to miss the Tábor World Cup in any case. Brand said in a social media post. A fracture in a metacarpal bone is an annoying injury, especially for motocross riders.

In addition to the Tábor World Cup, the leader of Baloise Trek Lions also has to fear the European championship in Namur on Saturday 5 November.
