Maggie Coles-Lyster, the Canadian Olympian and all-rounder, has officially signed with Human Powered Health, committing to the team through 2026. The 25-year-old, hailing from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, is set to bring her sprinting firepower and Classics potential to the American Women’s WorldTour team. Coles-Lyster expressed her enthusiasm for joining the squad, recalling her early racing days at BC Superweek and recognising Human Powered Health as a team she has long admired.

“To be on an American Women’s WorldTour team is special,” Coles-Lyster said, reflecting on her journey from a 14-year-old racing in local events to now joining a team she had always seen as a future possibility. She added, “Since Human Powered Health stepped up to WorldTour and then focused on women’s cycling, I’ve heard nothing but good things. The staff seems incredible, which builds a solid foundation and that increases my excitement even more.”

Coles-Lyster, who has already demonstrated her capabilities with a stage 2 sprint to eighth at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in 2024, sees this move as a significant step in her development. “To come to a programme that will help me step it up to that next degree of development is important,” she explained. “I’ve figured it out on a large scale and now it’s time to fine-tune details with a team that will support that.”

The Canadian cyclist is also keen on the team’s focus on holistic performance, acknowledging the importance of balance in an athlete’s life. She noted, “You see a lot of female athletes go down some slippery slopes. Maybe they’re really good for a season but then they get completely burnt out, and that is sad to see. For our long-term health and performance, balance with the Pillars is crucial.”

Coles-Lyster has had a successful 2024 season, showcasing her versatility across various disciplines. Among her top performances, she finished second on the 6th stage and third on the 3rd stage of the Thüringen Ladies Tour, as well as tenth in Gent-Wevelgem during the Classics season. She also placed fifth at the Ronde de Mouscron and eighth on the 2nd stage of the Tour de France Femmes, underscoring her sprinting prowess and her potential in the Classics. Additionally, her strong showings in track events, including podium finishes in team pursuits at the Milton and Adelaide Velodromes, highlight her all-around abilities.

As Coles-Lyster prepares to focus more on road racing and develop her Classics abilities, her team manager, Kenny Latomme, shared his confidence in her potential. “We will focus with Maggie in the Classics, but she will also be super strong in Daria’s lead-out,” Latomme remarked, recognising her skill in positioning and energy management, honed from her track racing experience.
