In a thrilling race today in Bad Dürrheim, Mieke Kröger clinched her third German national time trial title, delivering a stellar performance over the 30.6-kilometre course. Racing independently in a black skinsuit and on a non-team issue Scott bike, the 30-year-old finished with a time of 40:49.
Kröger, who retired from road racing after the 2023 season, has continued to focus on her strengths in time trialling and track racing, aiming for the Paris Olympics. Her experience shone through today, overcoming a strong challenge from Antonia Niedermaier.
Niedermaier, the 21-year-old rising star from Canyon SRAM, led at the first checkpoint by one second, clocking the fastest time after 12.6 kilometres. However, as the course became more demanding with its hillier sections, Kröger’s experience paid off. Niedermaier lost 10 seconds by the second time check at 22.8 kilometres and ultimately finished 17 seconds behind Kröger.
Niedermaier acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining her early pace, stating, “I felt strong at the start, but the hills took their toll. Mieke’s experience really showed in the latter part of the race.”
Rounding out the podium was Lisa Klein from Lidl-Trek, who finished 41 seconds behind Kröger with a commendable performance. Klein’s efforts ensured a strong presence among the top contenders.
Kröger’s victory today not only highlights her enduring talent but also sets a promising tone for her journey towards the Paris Olympics. As she continues to balance her commitments between time trialling and track racing, Kröger’s focus remains unwavering.
