Sara Fiorin takes first UCI win at Umag Trophy Ladies

Italian cyclist Sara Fiorin secured victory at the Umag Trophy Ladies 2024, marking her first win as a professional rider. Fiorin, representing UAE Development Team, emerged triumphant in the sprint finish after completing the 115-kilometre race around the city of Umag in Croatia.

Fiorin’s win came amidst stiff competition from her compatriots Michela De Grandis and Emma Bernardi, both teammates at Team Mendelspeck Ge-Man. The podium was completed by Lara Crestanello of BTC City Ljubljana Zhiraf Ambedo.

The race, consisting of four laps on a 28-kilometre circuit followed by a flat final stretch, showcased Fiorin’s sprinting prowess and tactical acumen. Despite the challenging terrain, she demonstrated exceptional skill to clinch victory.

While detailed race reports are scarce due to the lack of live coverage, it is evident that Fiorin’s victory was a result of her impressive performance in the final sprint. Her win signifies a promising start to her professional career and highlights the strength of Italian cycling talent on the international stage.

Additionally, two Polish cyclists from MAT Atom Deweloper Wrocław, Maja Tracka and Tamara Szalińska, secured notable finishes, further emphasising the young talents taking part in this year’s Umag Trophy Ladies.
