A long-awaited move

After years of following similar paths in the peloton, Bertizzolo and FDJ-SUEZ will finally join forces. The Italian explained her excitement at making the move:

“I am proud to join a team whose colours I have seen in the peloton since I turned professional. FDJ-SUEZ is one of the oldest women’s teams, which has evolved with the times to become one of the best WorldTour teams. I am delighted to be able to count on its experience and strength.”

General Manager Stephen Delcourt emphasised why the team had pursued her for so long. “For years, we have hoped to see Sofia Bertizzolo wearing our colours, and with patience and determination, our paths have finally crossed. Sofia arrives with ten years of experience at the highest level. She is a rider renowned for her racing intelligence, her consistency and her rare ability not only to shine, but also to make others shine. Her arrival is a major boost for FDJ-SUEZ. She shares our ambition, our vision and our hunger to return to the top. We are convinced that her experience and mindset will be valuable assets next season, both for our leaders and our young talents. Welcome, Sofia.”

Career so far

Bertizzolo first turned professional with Astana in 2016, remaining there until 2019 before a move to Virtu Cycling. Since then she has raced for CCC-Liv, Liv Racing and UAE Team ADQ, building a consistent career across the Women’s WorldTour.

Her palmarès includes victories at La Classique Morbihan in 2021, Trofeo Oro in Euro in 2022 and a stage of the Tour de Romandie Féminin in 2023. Those wins underline her versatility, with success across French, Italian and Swiss roads in both one-day and stage races. Just as important has been her role as a trusted teammate, supporting some of the biggest names in the peloton.

Joining FDJ-SUEZ offers her a fresh platform at a key point in her career. The team will look to harness her proven ability to deliver results while also using her experience to guide a younger generation of riders coming through their set-up.
