Tadej Pogačar, Tom Pidcock and Biniam Girmay are among the headline riders targeting victory at the Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec and Montréal on the 13th and 15th of September.
Pogačar, who won in Montréal in 2022, will be racing in Québec on the 13th of September. This will be his first appearance since his impressive Tour de France victory, completing the Giro-Tour double, a feat last achieved in 1998. Notably, this will be only his fourth one-day race of the season, having podiumed in all three previous events, including solo wins at Strade Bianche and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
The Canadian races will serve as a critical preparation for the Road World Championships, which have returned to their usual slot in late September. This makes them one of the final opportunities for riders to test themselves against elite competition before heading to Zürich.
Joseph Limare, GPCQM General Manager, commented, “Since the creation of the Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal, we have worked tirelessly to establish races that stand out on the world stage for their high standards, professionalism, and the warm welcome from the Québec public.”
Other confirmed starters include former winners Arnaud De Lie, Benoît Cosnefroy, and Michael Matthews. The field also boasts top North American talent such as Matteo Jorgenson from the USA and Canada’s Derek Gee, Hugo Houle, Guillaume Boivin, and 20-year-old Michael Leonard.
The organisers have confirmed the participation of other big names, including Simon Yates, Alberto Bettiol, and a lineup of French stars like Julian Alaphilippe, Valentin Madouas, Kévin Vauquelin, and Romain Bardet. Teams taking part include Lotto Dstny, Ineos Grenadiers, Jayco AlUla, Soudal-QuickStep, and Astana Qazaqstan.
With 2024 marking the 50th anniversary of the 1974 Cycling World Championships in Montréal, where Eddy Merckx won, Limare added, “As we move towards the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, in Montréal, our ambition is to continue to elevate these races to new heights, to the delight of cycling fans around the world.”
The Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et Montréal, now in their 13th edition since joining the WorldTour in 2010, continue to attract some of the biggest names in cycling.
