The Tour of Scandinavia has morphed from the Ladies Tour of Norway for 2022 after a successful run between 2014 and 2021. Originally hoped to incorporate the Vargarda races in Sweden, the organisers there eventually opted to remain separate.

The Tour de France Femmes has a long and convoluted history. The first race that could be considered a Women's Tour de France was the La Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale, held in 1955. That race was won by the Brit Millie Robinson, who would also go on to be a women's hour record holder. Held over 5 stages, the race ended up being a one-off event.

The women's Scheldeprijs is a very new race, with only one edition taking place so far. So this history part will be quite short! A large break of 16 riders were given some distance, including some big names like Brennauer, Alice Barnes and Lisa Klein. The presence of the big names meant the break was always going to be closed down. A spell of crashes interrupted the flow of the race.

The Women’s Gent Wevelgem has been running since 2012. Taking place on the same day as the men’s race, the women’s version starts from Ypres and finishes in Wevelgem. The route takes in the infamous Kemmelberg, although the women haven't tackled the steepest Ossuary side until this year's race.

The GP Oetingen came into existence in 2021 but in reality is a revived race. It’s a new version of the old Gooik-Geraardsbergen-Gooik race that was held between 2011 and 2018. The finishing circuit of that race has been largely reused for the GP Oetingen.
