Tour de France Femmes 2025 Stage 9 preview – Final Alpine test heads to Châtel via the Joux Plane

The final stage of the Tour de France Femmes 2025 wraps up a brutal Alpine finale with a 124km route from Praz-sur-Arly to Châtel, featuring two iconic climbs in the Col de Joux Plane and the Col du Corbier. It’s not a summit finish, but this stage offers a last chance for podium reshuffles and one more opportunity for stage glory. A day of over 3,000m of elevation and a drag uphill to the line will reward one final show of strength.

2025 Tour de France Femmes Stage 9 profile

Can anyone challenge Ferrand-Prévot on the final Alpine stage?

The day begins with a steady build-up, weaving through Sallanches and Combloux before reaching Arâches-la-Frasse. The early roads are rolling rather than mountainous, and any breakaway will need time to settle in before the real climbing begins.

At kilometre 54, the road kicks up for the Col de Joux Plane, one of the toughest climbs of this year’s race. It averages 8.6% over 11.6km and has been a decisive feature in past Tours, notably in the men’s race. The descent into Morzine is fast and technical, and could open time gaps if riders are caught behind or take risks on the wet.

After the Joux Plane comes a second punch in the form of the Col du Corbier – 5.9km at 8.5%. It’s a shorter climb but steep and energy-sapping after an already hard week. The summit comes with 29km to go and leads into a lumpy approach to Châtel, with the final 2.2km climbing at 5.6% to Pré-la-Joux.

The GC battle should be decided today. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot has ridden away from her rivals twice already and leads comfortably in yellow. The podium behind her is still open, with Sarah Gigante and Demi Vollering fighting for second and third, and Cédrine Kerbaol lurking close enough to pounce if either falters.

The opportunity is also there for a breakaway win. Tired legs, aggressive teams, and the difficulty of controlling this kind of terrain make it perfect for riders like Justine Ghekiere, Elise Chabbey or Shirin van Anrooij. UAE Team ADQ will be aggressive again, with Dominika Włodarczyk chasing GC and Maëva Squiban aiming for a third stage win in a row.

Prediction

Cédrine Kerbaol could finally take her Tour stage win here. The fast descent off the Joux Plane suits her attacking style, and if she gets clear before the Corbier, she’s strong enough to hold on through the drag to Châtel. She’ll have options – podium ambition and a stage result – and that makes her dangerous.
