For the first time in its 14-year history, the men’s Tour of Norway will also include a womenโ€™s race, creating a new chapter for Norwegian cycling. The womenโ€™s event, held alongside the menโ€™s, will take place from 31st May to 1st June 2025, with both competitions sharing the same courses. The previous Ladies Tour of Norway has morphed into the Tour of Scandinavia in recent years, taking an hiatus in 2024 but is due to come back on the 2025 race calendar. The similar names are slightly confusing but this Tour of Norway will be linked to the men’s race with the Tour of Scandinavia linked to the former Ladies Tour of Norway event.

Race Director Roy Hegreberg described the addition as a transformative moment for the event. โ€œThis is a milestone for the Tour of Norway and a fantastic opportunity to promote womenโ€™s sports. We are excited to see both women and men competing at the Tour of Norway 2025,โ€ he said.

The significance of this development was echoed by TV2 broadcaster Mads Kaggestad, who will provide commentary during the event. Kaggestad called it a “natural and right step” for the Tour of Norway, likening the integration to the approach taken by the Tour de France. “There is rapid progress in womenโ€™s sports in general, which is very positive. It feels more like one event and one brand,” he added.

The womenโ€™s competition will consist of two stages across varied terrain, promising intense racing and a stunning backdrop of Norwegian landscapes. Several top-tier riders, including local star Susanne Andersen, are expected to compete. The Stavanger native was quick to confirm her participation, calling the event a special moment in her career. โ€œI was thrilled when I first heard the news and immediately knew I wanted it on my race calendar. Iโ€™ll be at the start line, truly on home soil, with ambitions to win!โ€ Andersen declared.

Kaggestad also highlighted Andersen as a standout rider to watch, particularly given her connection to the region. โ€œNorwegian cycling has some standout athletes, like Susanne Andersen, who also has local ties to Rogaland. It would be exciting to see her in this race. I believe this will be a great inspiration for Susanne to perform at her best in the Tour of Norway,โ€ he explained.

Another name to watch is Ingvild Gรฅskjenn, whose performances last season demonstrated her potential on demanding courses. Kaggestad expressed his hope that Gรฅskjenn will also line up for the historic race.

As preparations continue, the organisers are finalising race routes and securing team participation for both the menโ€™s and womenโ€™s events.
