Victory for Marta Cavalli in the Amstel Gold Race

Marta takes victory in the Amstel Gold Race 2022!

The 128 kilometres will have been punctuated by multiple attacks, all taken over by the peloton, Marta’s final attack will have been the right one. After breaking away from the leading group at the top of the Cauberg, she rode alone in the lead for the last 1.8 kilometres, and finally won one of the best international victories for the team!

Stephen Delcourt, general manager of the team, talks about this victory: “This victory means a lot to the team because it is the biggest victory in terms of the team’s 16-year record. It crowns a very good period. for three years where the team has been gaining momentum at the international level, capable of chaining the top 10, chaining a few podiums. It is an outcome of the level that we want to give to the team, to be able to win any race in the world, and more with the way! Marta attacked in a strategic place, an attack that you could say should be seen in all bike teams. This is when it stings the most legs, where everyone feels the need to breathe, that she was able to find the necessary resources to win. And she won this race ahead of the best in the world. It’s quite a symbol at a time when the team is growing and strongly assuming its ambitions, to win the Amstel Gold Race.
This race is a springboard for the rest of the season because we will be chaining three of our future objectives (Paris Roubaix / Flèche Wallonne then Liège Bastogne Liège) in a context where we have had a lot of sick and injured people in recent weeks. It will obviously take the pressure off and allow you to run more liberated with the desire to do well and to dare. This victory is more than a singular victory that Marta did this Sunday!”

Marta looks back on her race: “I felt tired in the last 15 kilometres but my team encouraged me in the final and I made the decision to go. I tried to go alone, that was all or nothing. It’s an incredible feeling!”

Very moved, the winner of the day tells us: “These are incredible feelings, I still can’t believe it! Every time I look at my phone, I still cry because a lot of friends and fans write to me to congratulate me. It’s a lot of emotion for me because I’ve done a lot of work to get here and a lot of people are involved with me. I think it’s the best way to say thank you to everyone world. I love my job and it was the best way to end the day! It’s not the finish line, it’s just the beginning!”
