Young British squad brings blend of promise and power to 2025 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women

The Great Britain Cycling Team will complete the 19-team line-up for the 2025 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women, fielding a development-focused squad that blends experience with up-and-coming talent. With 114 riders confirmed for the four-day race, the national selection becomes the first team to announce its provisional six-rider roster, with a profile that suits both stage-hunting and long-term progression.

Jess Roberts, the 2018 British national road champion, returns to the Tour of Britain Women for the first time since 2021. Now 25, Roberts is re-entering the WorldTour peloton after stepping back from the road in recent years. “The last few years I’ve taken a step back from road racing so I am a little nervous to step back in to a World Tour peloton,” she said. “But it will be great to get some experience back and hopefully help the team to some good results.”

She’ll be joined by April Tacey, who recently secured her first professional win at the Omloop der Kempen. The Team Coop-Repsol rider has already shown strong form in 2025 and brings valuable experience from previous starts at the Tour of Britain Women in 2021 and 2022. Her win in the Netherlands underscores her readiness to deliver results across rolling terrain and selective sprint finishes.

The duo of Millie Couzens and Flora Perkins both ride for Fenix-Deceuninck this season and return to the GB line-up after riding the race in 2024. Perkins impressed last year with a 13th place overall and second in the under-23 classification, showing climbing strength and consistency across varied stages. Couzens, a versatile all-rounder with cross and road pedigree, adds depth to the team’s stage-racing potential.

Two riders will make their debut in the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women, bringing different but complementary strengths. Anna Morris, a world champion in both the individual and team pursuit, has proven herself on the road this spring with a second place at the Rapha Lincoln GP. Her power and time trial ability will be key, especially on exposed and undulating stages.

Ella MacLean-Howell steps in from the mountain bike circuit after a breakout 2024 campaign, where she racked up ten top-10s in U23 World Cups and represented Great Britain at the Paris Olympic Games. Her handling and climbing should suit the opening stages in North Yorkshire and Scotland.

Coach’s perspective and route insight

Senior Academy Endurance Coach Chris Newton is optimistic about the squad’s potential. “It’s fantastic to again have a strong GB Team in the Tour of Britain Women. It’s a great opportunity to come together as a national team and further develop our current and future stars,” he said. “The first two days around the Tees Valley and North Yorkshire are particularly interesting, as they are old training roads for myself, so hopefully that knowledge will be useful. I also know the crowds will be super supportive.”

The race starts on Thursday, 5th June with a tough opening stage from Dalby Forest to Redcar, crossing the North York Moors. Stage 2 heads from Hartlepool to Saltburn-by-the-Sea with an uphill finish, before moving to Scotland for a circuit race based in Kelso. The final stage wraps up in Glasgow on Sunday 8th June.

With a line-up that can shape breakaways, contest hilly stages, and support young riders eyeing GC progression, Great Britain will be a team to watch.
