2025 edition of Giro Mediterraneo in Rosa postponed to September due to logistical & safety concerns

The 2025 edition of the Giro Mediterraneo in Rosa has been postponed until 18th to 21st September, after organisers were forced to delay the race due to unresolved safety and infrastructure issues affecting the original April dates. The UCI 2.2 stage race was due to take place from 10th to 13th April, but will now retain its planned four-stage format later in the year according to the organisers on Facebook today.

President Francesco Vitiello confirmed the decision, citing key problems uncovered during a 25th March meeting at the Prefecture of Naples. Municipalities along the second and third stages raised issues with incomplete roadworks, fibre optic installation projects and detour routes not yet finalised. In addition, ongoing seismic activity in the Campi Flegrei area has limited the availability of civil protection volunteers.

โ€œDespite the enormous efforts put in place by all the organisational staff, to date there are no technical times and ways to overcome the many problems that have arisen in recent weeks,โ€ Vitiello explained. He stressed that the race remains on the UCI calendar and that the governing body had been consulted and approved the revised schedule.

The Giro Mediterraneo in Rosa was upgraded to UCI 2.2 level for the first time in 2024. That debut edition saw Irish rider Lara Gillespie win two stages and secure the overall title, with teammate Federica Venturelli also taking two stage wins and finishing second in the general classification. Giada Borghesi won the remaining stage and completed the podium in third.

The format for 2025 is expected to stay unchanged, with the opening stage on the island of Capri followed by three stages across the Campania region. Vitiello extended his thanks to Italian Cycling Federation president Cordiano Dagnoni and Professional Cycling League head Roberto Pella for their continued support.
