Giro Donne Stage 6: Race Reaction From Elisa Longo Borghini

We saw a classic Elisa Longo Borghini attack on the approach into Bergamo before finishing ninth in a reduced bunch sprint to the line.

Hereโ€™s what she had to say at the finishโ€ฆ

โ€œI was really looking for this stage. The final climb in Bergamo is a magical climb and the final climb of Lombardia, a race that I would love to see soon in the womenโ€™s schedule. I hope one day to do this race and climb this finale again. And maybe next time dropping the other riders and not having Vos with me [she smiled].โ€

โ€œToday I had the best support from the team. I had a train of champions working for me to prepare the attack in the finale. I really wanted to bring them a victory to pay back this effort.

โ€œI was not really lucky to have Marianne and Garcia with me. Maybe without Garcia, Vos and I would have had more freedom. Of course, Marianne had her tactics, she just followed, and she played it right for herself. I had many eyes on me and that is part of the game.โ€

โ€œI like to race aggressive and give a show for the fans. Thatโ€™s my way to race. I did my best and we have to accept the results and look forward. Of course I am disappointed because I really wanted to win the stage today. The Giro is not finished, so letโ€™s see what we can get in the last stages.โ€

โ€œI am happy, my Giro has been good so far with only one bad day in the heat.โ€
