A quick preview look at Vuelta CV Feminas 2026

Vuelta CV Féminas has built a reputation for refusing to behave like a straightforward sprint race, even when the start list looks stacked with fast finishers. The early racing out of Bétera is relatively calm and flat, but the course is designed to turn late, and that back-ended structure changes how teams approach the day. It becomes a race of restraint first, then commitment, because the winner is usually the rider who can survive the key selection and still finish with speed once Valencia comes into view.

Last year’s edition offered a useful reminder of that rhythm. The race did not need a long list of climbs to feel selective. It only needed a late moment where the pace stayed high, and the group thinned enough that the finishing kick came from riders who had already been forced to work. Linda Zanetti’s win in 2025 fitted that pattern, and the broader roll of honour does too. Chiara Consonni and Barbara Guarischi have taken it when the sprinters’ teams keep enough control, while Cédrine Kerbaol, Floortje Mackaij and Liane Lippert have shown how quickly the race can tilt towards puncheurs when the decisive section is raced without hesitation.

As per usual, the 2026 parcours has a clear hinge point. The Garbí climb, 5.1km at 7.1 per cent, sits in the final 40 kilometres and shapes what comes after it. It is long enough to force a genuine selection and steep enough to put pure sprinters into difficulty if the pace is hard. But it is also far enough from the line that the race still has room to change shape, either through a committed front group pushing on, or through a messy regrouping that turns the run into Valencia into a full-speed fight for position.

Everything points towards the same tension deciding the outcome. If teams with punchy finishers drive Garbí as a launchpad, the race can split and stay split, setting up a reduced sprint from a group that has already been softened by climbing. If the sprinters’ teams limit the damage and bring it back together, the final kilometres become less about perfect lead-outs and more about who still has the legs to accelerate after a day spent riding on edge and saving matches for the one climb that actually bites.
