An Excellent Letizia Borghesi Gets on the Podium at the Trofeo Citta Di Ceriale

An exciting start of the season for the Aromitalia – Basso Bikes – Vaiano team, the absolute protagonists of the first edition of the “Trofeo Città di Ceriale”, a racing event on the Ligurian roads of Ceriale, a town located in the fascinating Riviera delle Palme, at the eastern end of the plain of Albenga, in the province of Savona. The thirty year old from Ville d’Anaunia Letizia Borghesi, after a 2020 season characterised by so much bad luck and various physical problems, threw her heart over the obstacle going to seize a fantastic third-place finish. Patron athlete Stefano Giugni, well supported by teammates Valentina Scandolara, returning to competitions with the Prato team shirt, Gemma Sernissi and Giada Borghesi, making her absolute debut in the top category.

Borghesi has however tightly defended her precious third place from the return of the chasing group, well protected by the Lithuanian champion Rasa Leleivyte, sidelined by an unfortunate fall in the ‘hot’ stages of the race. Despite everything, the expert athlete directed by the multi-titled technicians Paolo Baldi and Matteo Ferrari completed the party at Aromitalia – Basso Bikes – Vaiano, finishing in ninth position.

I am really satisfied with this seasonal debut – declared a radiant Letizia Borghesi at the end of the competition –I felt really good and the podium repays me for the many sacrifices of these last months, characterized by demanding training on the home roads, in a particularly harsh winter. This performance also gives me morale and further stimuli in view of the Strade Bianche UCI Women’s World Tour, the great Sienese classic that is particularly suited to my characteristics. I am aware that the best international interpreters of women’s cycling will be at the start, but I will do my best to make a good impression even in their presence.”
